Connecticut

We made a last minute change to the plan and crossed Long Island Sound to Clinton, CT.  A shallow entry, protected harbor with a family resort type marina.  Brian  biked to an antique store while Ellen hit the laundry room!  The sky is still affected by the fires in Canada.  Not a happy sight for us but we got chores done.

Leaving for Essex we had an unsettling experience.  We were on scene for a Mayday, a man fell overboard.  We changed course to assist in the search, we were the only boat nearby with a fly bridge and had the best over the water view.  We also had a higher vhf antenna so we were relaying messages from the smaller boats to the Coast Guard. After about half an hour one of the smaller boats found him, but not soon enough.  Very sobering to witness.

The two day stay in Essex, was relaxing and fun.  We just loved walking through town and we loved the Griswold Inn.

We enjoyed the Connecticut Museum, they had live music and our mooring was close enough to hear the sea shanty’s.

We left for an anchorage on Fishers Island.  Just an overnight but fun to watch the golfing on this private island.

    Hi Brian and Ellen,
Good to see your posts again. So sad about the man overboard. Glad you could help. We are land based but with numerous boat projects! We have Fantasia in Monterey now, so more interesting. May God keep you both safe.

I love reading your blog! I can’t believe you were involved in a search for a man overboard with unhappy ending. That is quite sobering. Stay safe and keep us posted on your adventure. You are both amazing, as always!
