Mangroves & Sea Grapes in the Keys State Parks

We spent the rest of the week watching the wind predictions for our departure and enjoying all the “lasts” at Bahia Honda (“small” waffle cones, beach naps, & Flagler Bridge sunsets).  We saw a juvenile Ibis, so cute.

The winds were strong the day we left but we had a great trip in clear water watching the dolphins swim underneath the surface.  The channel was cut in shallow water – we went slow.  We took a free mooring ball at Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park and stayed two nights.

We saw amazing sunsets and had a barracuda swim under the transom, you will have to trust us, they don’t stick around for pictures.

We took the dinghy to the State Park dock and received a private Ranger tour of the island trees and fruits and even a wall that no one knows who built.

This is the hurricane shelter on the island OMG!  Before that the only resource was to tie yourself to a tree and hope for best.

We could see Perfect Choice on her mooring from the trail

We left with Amy Marie headed for John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. It was hot and in order to fit under a bridge to enter Adams cut we had to take the bimini down.  Don’t recommend this on a weekend but we did it.

It was hot and we needed provisions so Brian biked to Publix trailing a dolly, he came back with flats of Pepsi’s and two water jugs in his back pack – this is an active lifestyle.  Best news of the day – This park has laundry !! Yes, it takes over two hours to do, but its fun and you meet nice people.  The view isn’t too bad either.

The next day we went out on the paddleboard with kayak paddles and took some trails in the mangroves!!

Then we went on the bike path through town for lunch at The Fish House – fun time/good people.

I cannot believe we will leave the Keys tomorrow.
