Beautiful Kentucky Lake

On Saturday we left Green Turtle Bay and headed to Smith Bay, an anchorage fairly close at MM (mile marker) 32.5.  There are so many beautiful coves and bays along the lake.   We stopped in Pisgah Bay to see the quarry graffiti.

On Sunday we headed to Ft. Heiman Cove (MM 62.7), a recommendation from Ron and Eva Stob who wrote about their Great Loop experience in “Honey Lets Get a Boat” and then founded the America’s Great Loop Cruiser’s Association (AGLCA).  It was a very pretty spot and there were a pair of Bald Eagles in the cove!!

On Monday we saw the eagles again and had our usual misty start to the day.  We headed to Pebble Island Marina (MM 95.6).  The Cypress trees and cliffs were beautiful to look at along the way.  We saw a Tug pushing a large Barge (15 loads!).  The other thing there is a lot of is beautiful waterfront homes.  We try to only take a few pictures of the homes we love during the day.

But the highlight was definitely the remains of the old L.& N. railroad bridge and remains of an building that didn’t get destroyed when the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) flooded the valley to create the lake.  The story of the Old Danville Transfer Elevator is worth a read here.  See how the building looked before the lake was created.

Tuesday we traveled to Densons Island at MM 125.  A very lovely spot just off the river.  We bonded the SeaWise dinghy pads to the new Highfield dink and had a relaxing evening.

Wednesday we left at our usual time but had a couple of short unplanned delays.  The first was an adjustment to the dink davit system.  The second was alarms that went off – but it was only the radio with a weather alarm that didn’t apply to us.   We are also having a battery issue that we will deal with this week.

We had the company along the way with two other Looper boats who were also heading to Clifton Marina.  It was fun to trade boat photos through Nebo and email.  We arrived at Clifton and went right to work.  Ellen with “office work” logging todays journey, uploading photos, and blogging.  Brian is researching battery charging issues.

We had dinner with the crew from Nine Lives.  They have been at this for a while.  It seems like everyday we learn so many things about Looping.
