Hilton Head Island and Romantic Fish

Hilton Head Island was a short hop from Jekyll Island but it was a very unique stop and a good place to get away from the wind for a few days.  Windmill Harbour Marina has its own lock to control for the tides and the harbor is surrounded by homes so, less wind.

It was neat to lock through a small lock since we have been through so many large locks.  We even walked back later to watch a large catamaran lock in during the afternoon winds.

This marina isn’t near anything unless you have a car, but we did bike around the marina and look at the beautiful houses.

But even more unusual than this alligator wearing Easter bunny ears, was the nightly serenade.  From 7 – 9 pm we were “treated” to repetitive love calls from a drum fish living in the lagoon.  Sleeping in a hull in the water, it sounded like whale songs to us.  It was so loud, you couldn’t drown it out with the headphones turned up.  It reverberated through the hull for the duration of the fish experience.   Drum Fish sounds.  Who Knew? Chalk it up to another wild Loop experience.

I also have to mention, in addition to everything else we love about the lowlands, the sailboats are getting just gorgeous!
