Carolina coast beaches

After Charleston it was time to see more rural sights, like this “school boat”.

We stopped at a beautiful anchorage just off the Waccamaw River with a lot of turtle activity on the tree stumps.  Brian had fun exploring along the creeks.

This spot was so beautiful and remote but here was a storm coming so we moved on and stayed three days in North Myrtle Beach at Barefoot Landing Marina.  We had fun in the shops andwe also had provisioning to do.

This Purple store was fabulous!  They were very happy to see me walk in.

These turtles were just hanging around at the dinghy dock.  We walked to provision at Food Lion.

We also saw a couple of these go by painted in their stealth radar absorbing paint.

There is so much beauty to see here; lighthouses, log houses, purple houses, and shrimp boats.  Fresh seafood is also easy to find.

We crossed an inlet just before Southport.  Busy with ferry’s, container ships, and dredging boats.

Southport is a beautiful town and the weather is still windy, good to be in a marina with other Loopers.

There are so many cool things you can only see from the water.  We saw a lot of range markers today.  There is obviously large ship traffic here as well as a large military presence just north of Southport.  We noticed a range marker/lighthouse  from 1848 warning different types of ship of their position!

We left Southport and headed to Carolina beach (the wind followed us) and we had “pre season weather” on empty beaches.

We had to get propane and met some folks on a pretty canal with small homes and docks.  We were able to tie up and walk through the private yard to get to Ace and Publix.  Loving the southern hospitality.

Brian was able to pay it forward just a few hours later as he noticed someone’s boat drifting and got to do a rescue.

We were rewarded with a bag a fresh shrimp.  The Pellys are also always around in case there is fresh shrimp.

Best chapter so far! I ran on Myrtle Beach in 1950. Did you see my little footprints?
