We had a short and uneventful run through the C&D Canal, a bit of a let down actually after all the discussions about how to plan your timing (which we did – so, happy let down). We stayed at Delaware City Marina for three days learning about weather from Tim, the gracious owner of the marina. By the time the bay finally permitted us to leave, we had biked a local seafood shack, and found a great bunch of boaters to hang with which couldn’t have happened at a better time as we approach the run to NYC.
We were treated to a impromptu night of Gershwin and Glen Miller songs from this great local band! Video of Band
After an early morning “trial run” that got scrubbed at 6am Sunday, we did leave Monday (16 boats) and it was an impressive day. It began with an unexpected large ship, continued with sunrise over the nuclear power plant. It was calm for a long time and we could all take photos of the other boats.
The last part of the trip the winds came, as promised. We arrived at Cape May and decided to stay an extra day.
