New Bedford to Cape Cod

The New Bedford experience began by passing through their hurricane barrier into the busy harbor.  As we passed through it, I did feel like they could protect the city in a pretty severe storm.  And just as we were processing that sight (with cell phones blazing) we saw this enormous blade, and for some of you, the New England Wind Farm project is old news but for some of our friends this may be news.

The fishing fleets and ferry boats were also impressive.  New Bedford feels like a town forgotten on land but the harbor is alive.  We took the launch to town and it didn’t take long to go through the old and deserted town but an awesome lunch at the Black Whale. Highly Recommend and have a Carolina Peach Sangria!  The incredible whaling museum is a must do!

The next day we dinked to Fairhaven which was tiny but had some incredible old buildings and a model of the Spray in the town hall.

We left New Bedford harbor and timed our run through the Cape Cod canal by stopping for lunch on a mooring ball provided by the maritime academy.  After lunch the sun came out and we went under the canal bridges and had a lovely and fast trip with the current.

But our day wasn’t done, the skies got cloudy again as we crossed the Cape Cod Bay.  By the time we arrived in Provincetown, it was pretty windy with sloppy seas. The minute we were settled, Brian wanted to go in and walk around town.

Day two brings us to the Monument, Brian wanted to climb it again and take a picture of the boat.  I waited below.  But I did take the tram down to the street which was fun.

We also found the home that my uncle owned when I was young.  Spending summers in the mid 1960’s with cousins was a special memory.

Since the weather had improved so much, we went to Long Point Beach – completely remote and beautiful.

We also took care of some provisioning today.
