Hell gate to The Hudson

We went from Port Washington to Croton on Hudson in one day, timing the pass through Hells Gate so that we had a good push up the Harlem River,  the view from the Harlem is often not in the typical loop route.  Again, we are so glad that we are pushing our loop to multiple years instead of rushing around the Loop in one year.  The Harlem is full of life, colleges, stadiums, and industrial buildings. The river here is for working class folks, transporting by barge all things needed to run this incredible city.  Was it difficult, nope, in fact very easy with only one RR bridge at the junction with the Hudson that had to be opened for us.  Once we hit the Hudson we were thrust right into the Palisades, where 700 feet of sheer granite runs right to the waters edge on the West Bank.  In a call that night to mom I told her it was like being in Fjords of Norway (never been there but to me it felt close).

Check out the prison ship at Rikers with the penthouse BB court.

Passing Yankee Stadium, the Courthouse and my grandparents apartment on the Grand Concourse, The Bronx.

We passed through the Spuyten Duyvil railroad bridge and we are now the Hudson and the Palisades.

We enjoyed the scenery for 40 miles and stopped for a week at Croton-on-Hudson.
