Old Saybrook turned out to be a lovely place to sit out some of the weather. We also got to watch a lot of avid fishing activity in the rain.
We walked through Old Saybrook which is old but in the mid century type of old. We walked to provision and got a ride back from another nice store manager. The next day we biked on the busy Boston Post Road, Ellen got a haircut, Brian went to West Marine. The town provided free mooring balls, and there was a classic small yacht club with kids sailing Optimist boats.
We are working our way back to the Hudson and more or less letting the weather decide which direction we go. Weather said we go back to Fishers Island then to Bridgeport, a lovely surprise. A clean marina with huge floating docks, and a Huge hoist. It was just a stop over except for the mother of all Bass Pro Shops and a concert venue.
We made a weather related decision here not to continue down the Connecticut side of Long Island Sound and let the wind take us across to Port Jefferson since we enjoyed it so much the last time.
I thought we were going to Cold Springs Harbor but we ended up in the beautiful Village of Northport. They have a town dock with power and water, reasonably priced and steps to downtown. Unfortunately it’s on piling with a seven foot tide. We were alternatively under the town dock/promenade with a slippery ladder to climb off or we were at eye level with all the folks walking and checking out the wharf scene. We only stayed one night but highly recommend the bakery, and the deli for homemade Italian Ices.
Then back to Port Washington to position the boat to time the tide for the Harlem River.
This ends our 500 mile side trip to New England.
