Our boat took a right turn at the Battery and the other Loopers headed north up the Hudson and just like that, we were boating alone again.
This is what a planning session looks like. The plan will vary slightly many, many times but this is what getting the first plan together looks like.
Port Washington was our first stop. We stayed on a town mooring ball. Manhasset harbor hosts two yacht clubs so there was a lot of small boat activity including young kids getting sailing lessons. It was a great stop for a couple of days. The dinghy dock was near a Stop & Shop and a pizzeria.
Had a visit from my “cuz” Liz. We caught up over a dockside lunch at Louie’s where I learned to sail. Our parents were friends when they were young!
Which brings us to Port Jeff. I cannot believe I had never been here before. We had to wean ourselves away. We spent 2 nights at the yacht club dock, then 2 nights at their moorings and then one night at anchor.
The town park and beach were next to our dock. Brian took off to look at Pirates Cove in the dinghy. It’s a beautiful spot surrounded by dunes but there are so many private mooring balls there is no room to anchor.
The sweet shops were epic!!
The boat building was active and listening to the men creating wooden boat replicas was great!
…… and Randi and Donna came to visit. ❤️❤️❤️ #50yrfriendship
We thoroughly enjoyed the yacht club sailing lessons for kids of all ages and skills.
We watched the Bridgeport Ferry every hour. We were pretty entertained, especially the one who’s bow lifted to let the cars drive off.
We read about the Mather Museum and Clock Museum and found an incredibly special place tucked into one of the streets in Port Jeff. We couldn’t take inside photos but there are pictures on their site. Port Jeff Historical Society
We stayed for the farmers market and the Makers Faire
then we moved out to anchor. Had a lovely visit with Jolly Roger, T00 before we left Long Island for Clinton, CT.
Thank you for sharing your adventure with such vivid descriptions and beautiful photos. Especially moving to see the happy memories captured in two generations of friendships!
It’s so much fun living your journey along with you !
Excellent dialogue and Photos!
