Savannah Georgia-oyster beds, hanging moss, town squares, and spires

We continue our winding journey through the marshes of Georgia watching houses as we follow the markers on a rising tide so we don’t run around (hint, see the oysters on the pilings to check the tide ).  In Georgia there are oyster beds everywhere.  “Hon, run down to the dock and grab a half dozen oysters for me“.

An interesting part of the loop is the route planning and marina/anchorage selection.  We had talked about Savannah being a “must do” for years but had heard that the town docks get rocked from ships so we almost decided to skip it.

There is a difference to your experience when you need to Uber, rent a car, or bike to an area of special interest vs. stepping off your boat into town like we had in Tarpon Springs and Pensacola.

We decided to stay at Isle of Hope Marina and Uber to town.  We made the right choice and we got to see two very different and beautiful areas of Savannah.  We walked a bit around the marina area just before the storm hit again.

We borrowed the loaner car and went in the rain to West Marine then Krogers for groceries.

The next day we went into Savannah, the town of squares and spires, it was lush!  The sense of history is Everywhere and they are proud of it.  We also learned a lot about the The Savannah College of Art and Design‘s effect in Savannah and all the buildings they are restoring.

We walked along River Street, had a delicious peach daiquiri with lunch and watched the river traffic.  We watched small cruise ships, paddle boat cruisers, and barges with tows go by in the current.  We saw the options downtown and it just wasn’t for us.  We saw two container ships go right by the dock in addition to the cruise ships, paddle boat cruisers, barges & tows.  We Ubered back to our peaceful little marina on the Isle of Hope.

The first two pictures were taken from just behind River Street.  The next photo is from our balcony table ON River Street!! So glad our boat isn’t on the city docks.
