Urbanna and the Northern Neck creeks

Urbanna Virginia, on the Rappahannock River, was an unexpected great time, not really on our stop list but the weather and timing pushed it to the top.  This little town really touched our hearts.   We stayed a few days which always helps get a feel for the people who live there.

The URBBY marina is Urbanna Boatyard and Marina ~ highly recommend.  Two marinas were recently purchased by Amy and Andy Anderson and combined.  They are building a nice boaters oasis here, gracious and hardworking folks and this marina shows it.  Ellen and Amy took off grocery shopping and Brian jumped in to help around the marina.  The town was loaded with historical sites yet was modern enough to stay lively and up to date. Did we pick up real estate magazines and do a Zillow search ?? Absolutely.

We were excited to do a quick walk through town.  We had lunch at the café and then went sightseeing.  Marshall’s drug store just closed their soda fountain counter during Covid, but it was so neat to see it.

We toured the Scottish factor house and tobacco warehouse where they rolled the barrels.  We enjoyed learning about the John Mitchell map.

We also did some biking and looked at the beautiful cottages around town.

We kept moving north to catch the good weather so after a few days we went up Indian Creek to Kilmarnock.  This creek was as beautiful as the last.   We LOVE the thousands of beautiful creeks and coves here in the Virginia Chesapeake!

We stayed over in this peaceful cove as the rain storm passed us by while we sat enjoying the beautiful weather and the sounds of birds all day.

The next day was beautiful so we did another short hop to Painters Point and anchored in (you guessed it) another beautiful cove. And took in a bit of shore time.

We stopped one more night to anchor at Ingrams Bay, also beautiful in its own way.

On the way north we were able to get across the Potomac in seas of 1 – 2 feet but also crazy waves from ships and inlets.   We stopped in a beautiful cove in St.  Jerome creek.

The weather continues to be favorable.   On to Solomon’s.
