Panama City Thanksgiving

We left Destin for a planned two day stop at Two Georges Marina in Shalimar; oil change, post office, West Marine and haircuts. Check!  Just to show you its not all sunsets and boat drinks on this trip.  Yes that’s blood and oil on the rag.

The wind has been picking up this week so we headed up to Rocky Bayou which was a protected and beautiful cove.

The next day we crossed the Choctawatchie Bay to anchor right next to a long and narrow “canyon” canal that leads to Panama City and once anchored, Brian found Eden State Park.

Still some hull slap from the wind at night but we went through the 20 mile “canyon” into the Panama City area and dolphins greeted us.  We anchored off of Steve and Lori’s house and took the dink in to provision.

The weather was still overcast and windy but we went to Shell Island.  We thought about leaving to get more wind protection but we stayed and had 17 knot winds, gusting higher, all night long.  But it was cool to hear the Star Spangled Banner at sunset from Tyndall AFB.

We moved for protection around the bend to Smack Bayou – a real treat.  We stayed three days.  It was still cold but had a beautiful lagoon feel with a cormorant flock and pairs of dolphins.  We watched hundreds of crabs on the beach.  One morning we watched a bald eagle fighting a hawk for fish right off the boat.  A Very Thankful Thanksgiving.

We moved the boat to Emerald Harbor where she will stay through the holidays.  See you in 2022
