I know that it’s been hot everywhere but it is some kind of Hot Hot Hot in the south.
We have been doing a lot to get the boat put back together and develop new habits on the boat that work for Looping which is a bit different than our usual delta daily rhythms. We finally got our Nebo working. This is how we will track our adventure.
We have been to the village a few times now to provision. We walked around the shops but went back to eat on the boat. A dinner a the famous Patti’s restaurant seemed a bit to heavy for this weather. Maybe we will go when we come back in September.
We had a couple of brief thunder and lightning storms. We were so thrilled, we were like little kids just standing outside in the rain.
We took the boat out to Sledd Creek. We left Green Turtle Bay and went from Barkley Lake over to Kentucky Lake. Incredible!! Finally, relief from the heat. We bobbed in warm water for the afternoon. It was like a hot tub.
Friday night at the marinas Thirsty Turtle restaurant there was a live band “Old School” playing classics from our high school days. But the best part of the night was seeing FIREFLIES again in the woods while we listened to the music.
On Sunday we went to church at the marina. It was a lovely service in the woods overlooking the lake. Afterwards, Dustin arrived from Bourbon City Yachts with our Highfield. We spent the afternoon modifying it to fit our davit system. We were able to get the stern bracket and outboard on, but our main goal this week was to glue on the lifting pads.
No go…. the recommended humidity for the glue to set must be below 60% humidity and right now the daily humidity has been 90+%. The pads for the davit system will have to wait.
We took a harbor tour in the dinghy and ended at the beach with, you guessed it, more sitting in the water.
Today we went out on the lake again, to Cow Bay. More incredible homes and another amazing anchorage. And more “water sitting”.
It has been stressful at times and a lot of work in a heat wave, but the perks show themselves daily. I saw a little turtle riding on a piece of drift wood yesterday morning.
Looper tip: if your schedule allows, easing into the Looper lifestyle is a nice way to begin.
The plan is to have the boat ready to just provision and cast off as soon as we get back in mid-September to start heading south on our loop.
