Goodbye Erie for now

As we were leaving Little Falls, Maria from MV Do it Now took drone photos of us Locking through the Guillotine Lock 17

Today was a big locking day, on our way to Amsterdam, NY we went through seven locks.  We saw some impressive dams, spillways, several guard gates in action, and a lot of snags, we even saw the snag boat.

Riverlink park was nicer this time as we got a floating dock instead of a high wall.  We had gone into town over the railroad tracks last time.  This time we went over a beautiful bike/walking path over the canal that had a 9/11 memorial.  We walked over the path and had dinner at Lorenzo’s Southside – we will be back!

We left Riverlink and went down Locks 10, 9, 8, 7 and then went down the “Flight of Five”.  These are five locks one after the other.  We passed Waterford, where the Erie canal starts. Only half the docks were open so we passed it by and entered the Hudson and headed South through the federal lock Albany #1 and stayed in Troy.  Troy had showers, a few restaurants and a supermarket which was needed because we were low on supplies.  but in somewhat typical loop fashion, when we arrived at the dock the harbor master said “ya the store closed a while back” and “the showers are in the trailer next door and whatever you do, don’t walk past the restaurant area after dark”.  Oh well, it was a nice dock, we met some fellow loopers, and the power allowed us to run the AC.

And a lot of very cool tugs.
